WORKSHOPS ON REGISTRATION OF UNREGISTERED CHILDREN THROUGH INNOVATIVE TECHNOLOGIES
Civil Rights Program/Kosovo (CRP/K) has organized three sessions of workshop on “registration of unregistered children through innovative technologies”, within project “Registration of unregistered children through SMS technology in three municipalities” supported by UNICEF. Two sessions of the series were organized in Milloshevë, and the last one in Prishtinë on 17 October 2014.
 
Purpose of these sessions of workshop was to promote importance of civil registration as a right guaranteed by Kosovo Constitution, making public institutions’ officials aware to prevent statelessness and promotion of human rights in general.
 
Participants in sessions of workshop were as follows: representative of Civil Registration Agency, Ministry of Internal Affairs, University Clinical Centre of Kosovo, Civil Registration Office of Gracanica, Fushë Kosovë and Obilic, Center for Social Work of Gracanica, Fushë Kosovë and Obilic, Office for Community and Returns of Gracanica, Fushë Kosovë and Obilic, UNICEF and UNHCR.
 
Recommendations that derived from discussions in workshop are as follows:
 
· To provide further training and increase of capacity of local institutions to increase activities on information and awareness rising related to legislation, policies and strategies of existing civil registration procedures;
 
· To promote and undertake coordinated efforts to offer assistance to citizens, especially to marginalized categories;
 
· Flexibility for vulnerable groups of the population in Kosovo. In this context, it is recommended to form committees in all municipalities for people who lack documents needed for registration of civil status;
 
· Identification of persons in need during field visits, and acquisition of fingerprint through technological tools and immediate registration of the same.
